Butchers Hook

A very great shame that the landmark pub 'The Thatched House' has been renamed, and of course the traditional style pub sign has gone with it to be replaced by a boring name board. This pub under this name has been a reference point for generations. Yet another make-over for this community facility, and how long will this one last? I also find the name itself objectionable, with images of carcases and blood. I am a meat eater, but I doubt if I will get my vegetarian wife to bring our family there for lunch, and we live about 100 yards away.

Ate there last week and can highly recommend it. The food was excellent and friendly staff made it a very pleasant meal.

Looks like is part of the rebranding by Youngs of its tenanted operations into the Ram Pub Company. Even so Tom Gavaghan clearly knows how to run a pub so I won't delay in giving it a try.

The Butcher's Hook is no more but the Thatched House rises again under Tom Gavaghan, landlord also of the Andover.

Unsure why but this closed on Monday.  The previous landlord of the Thatched House, has I believe, returned.  We can but hope the name will also return

Tried it recently and although it is a while since I was at the Thatched House I thought it was an improvement. Not happy about the name change though.

Yes, off putting name for us veggies, guess it's an indication of the menu, so we'll be giving it a miss. And always a shame when established names change

Ditto this, as per my recent posting on this site Thatched House has been there since 1800's.I live right opposite it and I hope last night's little tantrum is not an indicator of what we can expect.  It was open but am guessing it was for invited guests (and I know the front page here says opening on 11th but there was a notice on the window that said the 8th).  Anyway about 11pm on the balcony facing Dalling Road, two of the staff I presume were sitting out there shouting at the top of their voices even tho they were next to each other, when one of the guys walked off and the other was shouting "Don't you f$!£ing walk away from me"........believe me if it had carried on I would have shouted over and told them where to go!

Agree, Alan. It has been called The Thatched House not for generations but for centuries.
