Hammersmith Bridge Closed For A Year?

According to the TfL web site it is closed today and will be for the rest of the year. I'm assuming this is an error but there was talk some time back of the Bridge needing more refurbishmenthttps://tfl.gov.uk/traffic/status/

Blimey - that's a bit of a blast from the past. Well if it is going to be a garden bridge it probably will be a lot cheaper than Boris's one. Ultimately I don't think it is sustainable to keep it closed as the collateral damage to neighbourhoods who are affected by the diversion is too high.The next Mayoral election is in May 2020 and it is inconceivable that they won't have a plan to reopen by then.

I'm told, but haven't seen further details that they are consulting people on what colour to paint the bridge when it is refurbished. Have to say I would be inclined to stick with the current green as opposed to the cream, blue and russet in your picture.

I imagine it takes heavy punishment from the traffic that uses it these days too Paul.. in addition to structural movement. When this "2nd" Bridge was opened in 1887 (?) I guess that horses and carts were the traffic of those days!

Agreed.Although when I drove over it yesterday the surface was terrible - perhaps it moves more than most bridges making it difficult to tarmac.
