Closure of the Cineworld cinema: "King Street Regeneration" is under way

The closure of the Cineworld cinema in April is the first step in the redevelopment of the west end of King Street. I wonder whether this project is as lucrative as it was thought to be in 2012:(1) The thousands of flats in the Battersea Power Station development are, presumably, being marked down now. What will 196 Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands flats eventually fetch?(2) The staff in the Town Hall are so depleted that it is not clear that there will be any need for council offices on the corner with King Street.(3) To my knowledge there is still no confirmed tenant for the new cinema in the mezzanine floor of the refurbished Town Hall extension?Any more thoughts?

A company called Curzon Hammersmith was set up in 2014.https://www.endole.co.uk/company/09032124/curzon-cinemas-hammersmith-limitedOne of the directors is also a director on other Curzon group companies. This listing suggests that the company is now dormant or inactive - make of that what you will.

I thought Curzon was confirmed as the tenant for the new cinema.

Ryness was a "destination" shop, the kind that supplies specialist goods that you make a journey for. We need more, not less, of this kind on King Street. Unfortunately I think that these shops are moving to the more wealthy end, Chiswick High Road, where rents are higher still.

Totally agree with you, although noticed this morning work going on in the vacant space next to Holland and Barratt so looks like something may be opening there.  Wilko opened this morning which I personally think is good as I do not class that as a discount shop.  And again I don't think we need any more coffee shops.  However King Street is still lacking something.......once you get past Primark, even though there is Argos, there is nothing to attract customers down to that part of Hammersmith.  Maybe if it was pedestrinised.........now that would cause traffic chaos!

There is still, amazingly, pressure from commercial landlords to increase rents on King Street/Chiswick High Road: Ryness, the lighting shop, closed on 19th February, and we have lost this outlet for a wide range of bulbs and fluorescent tubes. We don't want or need more Poundlands (two already!) or hairdressers!

Such a shame re Cineworld.  Even if the façade could have been kept, at least it has some character.  And I don't know about the redevelopment of the west end of King Street, there are more and more empty shops which seem to stay vacant for a very long time.
