Brackenbury Grove - can you have a gated community in a village

Was just looking the computer generated images on the web site for this new development. The boxy designs are not to my taste and have the unfortunate look of a prison about them. As they are highlight the virtues of the development being a gated community it remains to be seen if the gates are keep the existing residents out or the new residents in.The question is can you really have a gated community in a village? Once you have started putting up barriers between neighbours haven't you stopped being a village and become something very different?

Given recent events in the political sphere they may never be built. If they are, the way we are going, the gates might prove to be prudent.

Totally agree with you, they are characterless blocks which are totally not in keeping with a village.  And such a pity they could not have taken ideas from the "delightful collection of Victorian streets" they are proud to use in their promotion.  Personally I think it is a good idea to keep it gated, that way it differentiates from the real Brackenbury Village that does have character and a community feel.
