The Trouble with Triboroughs

Hammersmith and Fulham is in Rotten Boroughs in Private Eye again. This time it is about the costs likely to arise from the collapse of the Triborough arrangement with K&C and Westminster. Probably it was inevitable that a Labour run Council wouldn't be able to work in such a close arrangement with to Conservative run ones but it would appear that the costs of pulling out of the deal may be significant. The rather shady background to the contract given to Olympic Cars to transfer people with special needs around the borough gets another airing. Also there is talk of a payments contract signed with BT that was supposed to save millions but now will cost local taxpayers even though it was never implemented.

Stephen Cowan says that the savings which were enthusiastically promised by the then Leader Stephen Greenhalgh turned out to be illusory in some areas. I don't think that all of the tri-borough arrangements are to be reviewed, only the ones where there were and are significant differences in policy.
