Crime in Hammersmith ?

What's the most prevalent type of crime in Hammersmith? Is it car theft, or muggings or house burglary?  Wonder if the Met Police read this neighbourhood site? If they do, perhaps they might respond. What Police division is Hammersmith in? Are there any 'no go' areas after say 10.00pm in Hammersmith?

Yes, I would be interested to know what is top of the crime stakes.  Reckon drugs and drug related would feature near the top of the list.  BOBs would make an appearance.

and use an old mobile if you're going to flash it.  Women need to be wary of Bobs on bikes on pavements, and men confronting lawless savages from the estates.  The police are not really interested in pro-active policing, but they did, recently have a blitz on scooters (?) on pavements, and netted some 30 of them.  I must say I have never seen a scooter doing anything other than proceeding lawfully down the road.  And NEVER leave anything of value visible in your car.

We had a note through our door a couple of weeks back from the local police asking if we are interested in a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme (yes) and if so could we run it (no).  We used to have one and the signs are still up on the lamp post.  Apparently its possible to get a reduction in house insurance if there is one in operation so I am encouraging the neighbours to say 'yes' and hopefully someone will say 'yes' to being team leader.Does anyone else have a N.W. scheme in their area, and do they get a reduction from their house insurers?

I tried poating NW leaflets along our road and got no response whatsoever from any of the houses.  The police have a large information pack, with leaflets and a video (maybe a DVD now), but it is difficult to know how to progress the scheme without, literally, visiting each house and making your pitch.  I don't thimk our insurer has mentioned the discount available - would they, I wonder.

Don't ask, don't get.  Might have a word with ours and see what their response is.  If positive, might even encourage others to join the scheme.

About Neighbourhood Watch - yes, we have a scheme running in our area (Brackenbury) and, yes, it does lead to a reduction in house insurance. Which goes to show that it works. Our NW has come and gone over the years but with the advent of police Safer Neighbourhood Teams it has recently been relaunched.It is not a police responsibility although the police will support it by attending meetings, giving advice and so forth. They are now keen on individual streets running their own scheme - presumably because they have found it works better that way.I would urge anybody who values Neighbourhood Watch and its benefits to get off the sofa and get organising. You can take it slowly - there's lots of advice on the website, but please don't just sit there and hope somebody else will do the work for you. Once you get going you'll find that others will join in.

I certainly agree with your piece about the Metropolitan Police and do they bother to read what is going on around them. I think they should bring more Police back on the beat instead of driving around in cars.Two weeks ag I was chased by a black man (I am not prejudiced )he was after my handbag and not a solitary policeman in site)It would be nice if more people had the same problem as me,could make some sort of objection to what is a very importand and needed scource in this borough.Also better street lighting,where it is needed and CV CAMERAS IN THE BACK STREETS WHERE PEOPLE ARE VULNERABLE TO ATTACKS. I HOPE THAT PEOPLE WILL SUPPORT THIS ACTION.Peggy

Peggy, you poor thing, must have been terrifying.  I totally agree with you about not seeing any police or community support offices walking around.  Certainly not in some of the quieter back streets you don't.  How many times do you openly see kids cycling round looking in windows of cars............you know exactly what they are going to do if they see something interesting. Definately there should be more police on the beat at all times, day and night.

I do see police patrolling our road from time to time (off Askew Road).  And CCTV has been installed in Askew Road too, which makes me feel a little safer on a dark winters night.

I'm in Dalling Road and no cctv (why are so many people against cctv............makes me feel safer!)The only time I see police is usually when they are called to the estate I live on (no comment!!)But I park in the side roads (Attwood/Perrers) and very rarely see police on foot.

I have to say I am not keen having cctv everywhere, ie on residential streets.  Far too Big Brother is Watching you.  I can also tell when the police come down our streets on horseback.  Big poos.

I know there are divided views on cctv........what do they say about not being able to please everybody.Not quite sure what to say about the big poos really........hopefully it is from the horses!  Oh dear, that is me in shackles:-)

At one time when there were more police on horseback around the streets, and I only know this cause my dad told me, people used to go out and collect their droppings to put on their gardens.  Good for the rhubarb apparently. Bet that smelt delightful on a hot day!
