Westfield,end of life as we know it.

Now four days to opening, the Westfield leaflet that fell out of today's newspapers stated:'there's easy access from the M4' - through Hammersmith Broadway - I don't think so.We will soon realise that moving around our area at the weekend will become a luxury that we once cherished.I'm just surprised at how relaxed everyone seems to be about the additional (average per day of 13,000 and at least double on Saturdays) car journies there will be.If I were to be given a £ for every time the word 'gridlock' is used in the run up to Christmas I will become a very rich man indeed.Westfield will truly be the end of our quality of life.You have been warned.

I love Westfield, it make me feel positively cheery and maybe will make the yuppies go away and open up Shepherds Bush for locals again.

Apparently (unfortunately, I can't now remember where I read it), takings are actually up on expectation so far. I expect the various stores factor in that there will be a lot of sightseeing to start with and although there certainly are masses of people just looking around, there seem to be plenty who are actually parting with money too.  Certainly the restaurants are all doing good trade (tried to go there to eat after the cinema last Saturday and couldn't get into a single restaurant)!  The average wait time was 45 minutes! Considering that the prevailing climate makes it about the worst ever time to open a shopping centre, they seem to be doing ok.

I would like to know if the stores truthfully think it has been as big a success as they had hoped, as I have said on other threads there seem to be a lot of people milling around but very few with shopping.

Can't say I've noticed much impact so far except last Sunday when things were very busy but there may have been other factors in play. Perhaps we shouldn't be that surprised when areas with lots of shops get a bit busier when Christmas approaches. I'm sure this time last year the Green was regularly jammed.

Many of my colleagues are concerned over the impact this shopping centre will have to their train journeys particularly at going home time.......we work right next door to it.  I am lucky in that I can walk to work but often hear the stories of crowded stations etc.  I am not convinced even with the new train stations and bus station that the true impact of the number of potential people crowding into Shepherds Bush has been truly assessed.  Mind you that is assuming the shopping centre does attract the crowds it says it will!
