3% Council Tax cut for fourth year in a row

Three cheers for H&F Council for going against the national trend of ever increasing council tax bills, while at the same time seeing a huge improvement in local services such as same day rubbish and recycling collection!A huge boost for all those struggling to pay the bills in these difficult economic times.

Aaron you are just playing with semantics. If you are right and a bigger subsidy was needed for important services such as wheels on meals then they could have been paid for with a smaller tax reduction.David Cameron's favourite Council ruthlessly looks to cut expenditure wherever they can and targets spending cuts not where is most appropriate but where they think it will lose them the fewest votes.

'The cuts are being funded by increased charges and reduced provision for the most vulnerable residents of the Borough.'The reduction in headcount at the Town Hall is probably a more important reason for the tax reduction than this. The much cited increase in meals on wheels charges for instance was not a cut - the subsidy remained the same but costs went up so prices had to as well. You could argue that it is wrong that the subsidy wasn't increased but you can't say that not increasing it enabled tax cuts.
