Save Starch Green?

Is anybody able to articulate what exactly it is Starch Green needs saving from? Proposals for extra housing units may cause some strain on existing infrastructure but we have a growing population so they need to be built somewhere and I can't see how they amount to the destruction of an area.

This has been mentioned on the Chiswick site in the past but you might be amused to know that a section of Askew Rd was once known as 'Gagglegoose Lane'............

At the junction of Askew Rd and Goldhawk Road there was a patch of common land, alledgedly used for pegging out drying washing, hence Starch Green. A small patch remains to the right of Askew Rd towards Ashchurch Grove. Starch Green used to be the name of the local Ward. Prior to the current council buildings planned for demolition there were large houses and I think some of the green may have been used as well for the council site. The planned development creates a mews which I think apes the historic layout. The consultants report on LBHF planning site gives more historic detail.

Where exactly is Starch Green? Is it a signed and official area, or just a name handed down by locals? And does anyone know where the name comes from? Thanks.

Overbuilding in an area in which existing infrastructure, particularly schools and roads, is overstretched is not a good idea.
