Illuminated Ad Towers along the A4 flyover

I live on the south side of the A4 with the back of our house facing the new illuminated Ad towers by St Paul's church. The glare from the ad tower is so strong that we no longer experience the same levels of darkness at night time which is incredibly annoying at bedtime.Did I miss the notification of planning before this was erected? Did anyone else know of this? The first I knew of this was unfortunately when it was first switched on.There is a consultation where resident's comments are being sought but to be honest, I'm not sure what can be gained from this given that the towers are already up and running. We could also ask where the planning notices were put up about the St. Paul's Church building site, which I believe is for a cafe/meeting space. A large part of the new park of St. Paul's Green has been taken over, together with a footway and a 'heritage' brick wall.Also, why is the forecourt being used as a car park now? These cars are obstructing pedestrian access to the Green.

You are but a mere ratepayer....what right have you to be consulted about things that affect your daily life ?Now that the St Pauls church has decided that it is no longer a giant advertising hoarding, we get these two monstrous towers erected so we can all worship Mammom as we drive through. Doesn't the borough look bad enough as it is without installing crap like this ?Could someone "in authority "also explain what on earth went on beneath the towers after they had been installed. Did the contractors break in to a sewer or were they drilling for oil ? More to the point which poor sap was paying for these works ?I long for the day when the Town Hall is shrouded in advertising hoardings then we won't have to look at it in all its misery.

Good idea to involve the councillors. It's Stephen Cowan for Hammersmith Broadway and I know he can often be found on this forum. I'll try contacting him first but if I get no joy, I'll contact Eugenie White.I'll keep you posted on how I get on.

Oh my goodness, I can certainly see what you are saying.  Talk about ruin a lovely view of the church spire.  And I guess at some stage in the future somebody is going to decide those trees need lopping again which will make it even more of an eyesore.  I guess all you can hope for is that a precedent has been set with the signage at Westfield having to be switched off as it was too bright.Have you involved any of the Councillors?  Somebody who has ALWAYS come up trumps is a lovely lady called Eugenie White (I hope she does not mind me passing on her details), her email address is eugeniekw@btopenworld.com, even if this outside of her boundaries I am sure she will point you in the right directon.  Please let me know how you get on.

Thanks Carol, it's good to know that sometimes we are listened to. It's also interesting to note that the consultation document again makes no reference to an Environmental Impact Assessment and measures for Light Pollution. What's even more laughable is that it contains the following statement:"All illuminated faces should be positioned away from residential windows"Here is the view from my back window - http://isaacupton.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/ad_tower.jpg.The tower is constructed in the Hammersmsith Broadway Conservation Area and impacts The Mall Conservation Area. I find it hard to believe that somebody in town hall finds it acceptable to erect Ad Hoardings here.My worries is that not enough comments will get through to make a difference. The council have been very quiet about the consultation and although I'm sure they have done the bare minimum, I doubt a lot of people know about this.Off to write a long letter of complaint to Barbara Woda :o(
