Flag pole in Ravenscourt Park

Why is there what appears to be a flag pole sited in the area opposite the tea house?

The flag pole in Frank Banfield Park was snapped off by vandals, presumably in full view of the surveillance cameras. The Park Constable I spoke to about it knew nothing and was notably unconcerned! Who PAYS for all this charade???

Well I hope the flag in Ravenscourt Park lasts longer than the one in Frank Banfield Park did. The last time I walked through there the lanyard had snapped and the flag was trailing on the ground. That park now has so many posts, signs, flag poles , lampposts,security cameras ,litter bins, dog shit bins , and benches there is little room for anything else !

Most likely it is for the park's Green Flag Award. The GFA scheme is national and recognises parks or public open space meeting a number of quite demanding criteria.  These include the likes of heritage, access,and community involvement, sustainability, biodiversity, community facilities [eg: events, play areas, sport, refreshments]. Green Flag parks are judged to be among the best in the country.  The scheme is administered by Keep Britain Tidy. In 2009 Green Flags were awarded to Ravenscourt Pk, Frank Banfield Pk and the Magravine Cemetery.

OH, ok.....sort of makes sense as it is near the polish memorial......which I still think should have been sited the other end of the park nearer the polish centre.
