Tesco Askew Road threat

Tesco want to open a store on the site of the closed Old Bull and Bush pub in the Askew Road. Sainsbury's are already opening at the other end of the road. We already have an excellent Co-Op. We do not want Tesco. It will damage Askew Road's excellent small shops including a newly opened private wine store and a good bakery, plus newsagents and small stores. Tesco must be opposed. Ask all candidates in the local election their view. For or against. If they vote for Tesco, as one of my local Tories vote for another party. Michael Wale.

I think the application is for the conversion of the upper floors. The ground floor will remain retail, therefore, permission is not required. Another Tesco.

The LBHF website [Planning and Environment] says the application is 'pending consideration' so you can probably still object.  The Application Number is 2009/03093/FUL.  There's a facility for sending online comments [click on Application Summary button].  When I did, I kept a copy of the contents and sent them to Ward Councillors for Askew and Ravenscourt Park as well...

I trust it is not a 'done deal', which has been kept secret from local residents like myself. The Co Op is a very good grocery store, and much more ethical than Tesco. The CoOp actually think where they source their food from, how it is produced and if the producers are paid properly. Let local politicians plus Bailey, Slaughter the Lib Dem and Green candidates speak out about this threat to the community.

I thought it was a done deal. Is it or have they just applied for planning? The Askew Road has always struggled and I hope the bakery and the new wine store etc. do well but it needs other shops to draw people there. Personally, I would rather have one good grocery store than three. We have some good restaurants though.What do you think of the new library/post office?
