Send John Terry Home Today

Win or lose this afternoon from what I have seen over the last few days any hope that the England football team have of at least the sum of their parts rests on getting John Terry out of the camp. His unpopularity amongst fellow pros is well known and he clearly is at the root of all the difficulties the squad is experiencing at the moment. Still bitter at having the captaincy taken away from him by Capello he seems to be focusing on Shaun Wright-Philips who is Wayne Bridge's best friend. His abortive attempt to organise a 'team meeting' with Capello to try and force him to include Joe Cole in the team seems to have been thwarted by the lack of support from the senior pros such as Lampard and Gerrard. The problem is that the factionalism in the squad has clearly had an impact on the pitch.The man is poison and Capello probably would have got rid by now but for lack of available centre halves. With King, Ferdinand out and many of the possible alternatives such as Jonathan Woodgate and Curtis Davis ruled out before the tournament Capello's description of Terry's role as 'important' is based on necessity rather than enthusiasm.To me Terry has always been over-rated as a player and he regularly gets shown up in international football. He lacks pace, tactical awareness and ball distribution skills. The brave move for Capello would be to drop him and never pick him again - possibly too late for this tournament but if the current England team are to achieve anything it has to be done.

I think you are judging them through the prism of tabloid media. I've met quite a few professional footballers over the years and never found one of them egotistical. They all know they are judged objectively by their performances on the pitch and that they have to get along with their team mates.Very depressing to watch the game yesterday and I think it will get a lot worse with Terry likely to pursue his vendetta against Capello in the papers this Sunday. Ultimately he will try to blame everybody but himself for his inability to defend a straightforward goal kick.

Maybe they should pay them on a No Win No Fee basis!  Seriously my view is footballers are paid a ridiculous amount of money which, and this would apply to anybody, is going to make their ego's so huge no wonder so many of them think they are gods gift!  And where do I think the money generated should go......for a start they could reduce the price of season tickets, certainly for the top teams, and also the price of shirts etc that, unfortunately, most kids want but a few cannot afford.

Carol, who should the massive revenues generated by professional football go to other than the people whose skill people are paying to see?Agree with most of the points made by the original poster although John Terry did play well yesterday or perhaps more accurate to say with a level of commitment bordering on desperation. In fact there were at least two occasions when he flung himself at the ball when it could have struck his waving arms and given away a penalty. Such is the margin between being a hero and a villan.

I think many, if not all of our footballers, are over-rated and very, very overpaid!  They are in a position that means they are role models and they should act accordingly.  If they find that difficult they should be dropped.
