Pavements for pedestrians!

Last night walking down Goldhawk Road I encountered the following hazardsChildren on bikesChildren on scootersAdults on bikesJoggersPrams being pushed into backs of legs (why oh why when standing at pedestrian crossings is it necessary for a buggy with child to be placed so close behind me that if I should need to take a step back I practically end up sitting on the child!)Tables and chairs outside cafes/restuarantsBikes for sale taking up half the pavementPeople waiting at bus stops who seem to think nothing of standing in the middle of the pavement and are unhappy to move to allow people to get throughI guess the days of pavements being for pedestrians are long gone!

Entirely agree. There is a need for children learning to ride to use the pavement and they would normally do so in the company of an adult. Older youths should stick to the roads.

Maybe I should have said "youths on bikes".  I still feel there is a lot of emphasis placed on cyclists/joggers having a safe place to cycle/run but none on making the pavements safer for pedestrians.  I am aware that the pavement in some parts of Goldhawk Road have been widened but my initial comment was referring to the side of the road down by Tesco Metro heading towards Shepherds Bush Green.

If you don't allow younger children to cycle on the pavement whilst accompanied by adults they'll never learn basic cycling skills. It's difficult in the Hammersmith area to encourage children to cycle so this is something that should be encouraged not banned.
