Why can't Hammersmith sustain good restaurants?
I was looking for somewhere to eat recently in the area for visiting friends who were staying in Hammersmith and was surprised at the lack of choice available compared with other similar parts of London. With places like Chez Kristof and Snows on the Green gone there are very few 'venue' style restaurants in the W6/W14 area that I could find. There is the River Cafe but that is more or less in Fulham. Apart from that there would be the Anglesea Arms and maybe one or two gastro-pubs. For a place with an affluent population and lots of media/publishing companies based in the vicinity it seems really surprising. Can anyone explain why places like Chiswick, Hampstead, Wandsworth or Putney seem to have a thriving local restaurant scene and Hammersmith doesn't?
