Parking Permit for new car

I have just bought a new (to me) car.  I already have a permit for my old car.  I am told by LBH&F that, while I wait for the application for the new permit to go through, I have to pay normal parking fees.  This is expensive and impractical - how can I leave work every so often to put money in the meter?  Does anyone know of a way round this?

I really do not see what the problem is here?  It seems you can go along in person and get the permit, the offices are open 9 till 5, but you say you cannot do this because you are at work!  So ask to go in late or leave early!  If you don't want to pay a daily rate that is the only thing you can do.  Other than that what do you think the Council should do for you?  Allow you to put your old permit on your new car?  That would certainly make the for a rise in car breakins as there would be a blackmarket in parking permits.

I cannot apply in person (working) and I cannot apply online as I have to hand back my current permit.  What happens while I wait for the new permit to arrive?  I will have a car but no permit.

But they print it there and then, don't they?  That is what they used to do when I went to purchase my annual parking permit, before I started doing it on line.

This is from the LBH&F website re parking permits......I have changed my vehicle - how do I change my permit? Complete a replacement parking permit application form (pdf, 72KB), supply proof of your new vehicle, and return the form and your proof to us by post or in person, along with your current parking permit. A replacement permit will be issued for your new vehicle.If you have all the relevant documentation you could go to the cashiers office in the Town Hall, that I believe is where the permits are issued.
