Disposing of old paint in tins

Where can one dispose of old paint?I called the Cleaner Greener line and they put me through to the Corp. of London. A recorded message answered asking me to leave my name and tel.no. telling me they were extremely busy and would not get back to me for a few days.Is there a simple answer to this question?

Thanks for the info John. I was hoping there was somewhere closer. I do not have a car so this presents a problem.I actually gave the 6 tins of some very nice paint to my friend and she will car boot it. She says people always buy leftover paint. I find it very sad that in this country so much leftover paint goes to waste. In Quebec for example you can take any leftover paint and varnish to selected hardware stores and depots for 'disposal' except it is not disposed of it is recycled or actually reprocessed. You can buy ( in my paint shop !) a product that turns paint into a solid that you can then dispose of in general waste.

You can take it to the dump in Greenford run by Ealing Council  or the one in Mortlake run by Richmond. I have it on good authority that most of it subsequently goes into general waste but a little bit does go to paint Scout Huts and such like. 10 million litres of paint is dumped in this country per annum.
