Making friends?

Hi all, I've lived in Hammersmith for almost two years now. However I find it difficult to meet others. It seems more people barge into me than stop to talk to me...can anyone suggest the best way to meet new people, such as any classes or groups or anything in the local area? For reference I'm 24 and female but I have friends of all ages so it's not much of an issue :)

Do you have time to volunteer? Approach any local voluntary group whose cause interests you and you will soon meet people - from helping stressed mothers with toddlers, doing office admin for a homeless project, distributing leaflets for a fundraisng drive or  selling novels in the Amnesty book shop for a couple of hours on a Saturday, there's loads to do. Or join a class at Hammersmith College, it's very good.

What about a dance class like Salsa - there are loads in the area and they are a good way to meet new people in a non-pressurised environment?
