Remembering those lost at war

Many of us will soon be wearing a red poppy to remember the men and women lost at war.  There is also a purple poppy to remember animals that too have been lost, these are only available at the www.animalaidshop.org.uk/accessories/purple-poppy

What an unbelievable comment!  Purple poppies offensive.........oh for goodness sake!  Where on earth do you get the idea that by wearing a purple poppy alongside a red poppy is hijacking or diluting remembering the human sacrifice of war?  Surely it is bringing more attention to the sacrifices made.  Last year when I wore both poppies I was asked a number of times what the purple one represented and EVERYBODY remarked how nice it was to have animals remembered in such a way.  And indeed I am sure there are quite a few men and women of our armed forces who owe their lives to the animals used in warzones.

Millions of men and women died in the war. Animals killed represent a fraction of this number. We set aside one day a year for the remembrance of the fallen and it shouldn't be hijacked or diluted for other purposes. Do you not see how some could find purple poppies offensive even though I'm sure no offence is intended?
