What is Hammersmith's second best Indian restaurant?

If you don't think Indian Zing is the best that's because you haven't been yet. However, it is on the expensive side. Given the large number of alternatives in the are I wondered where people would suggest to go if budget was an issue.

I too remember Vineet Bhatia - probably the best Indian meal I ever had. Used to like Tandoori Night but I think the golden days of Indian restaurants in Hammersmith are over. So many of the better ones have closed and the turnover of places seems really high. It may be that Indian food isn't quite as popular as it used to be.

I'd recommend the Rajput in Goldhawk Rd, just to the east of Brackenbury Rd. It's a solid favourite, been going for years, it wins with fair priced food, always well cooked and presented, lovely staff.

I am surprised that Indian Zing is still thought to be Hammersmith's best Indian restaurant. To me, it is crowded and noisy, with seats too close together to make for a relaxed evening. My favourite is Potli (also on King Street), where the food is sublime, the staff are attentive, and there is space and comfort. I remember Vineet Bhatia, who is still going strong in Chelsea. Must be one of the best Indian restaurants of all time.

I agree that Haweli is excellent.  We've been going for years and the food is always great.  Also, it's almost always full of customers which is a sign they must be doing something right.

Have you tried Haweli. Cheaper, more informal than Indian Zing but very good food. Agree with you about Indian Zing but do fear for its future somewhat. There have been several attempts to do top end Indian food along this strip over the years and they have never lasted despite serving excellent food - longer term residents may remember Vineet Bhatia.
