Toby Young as MP for Hammersmith?

Apparently he is completely serious. Have to confess when he started banging on about local schools that I never believed he would see the West London Free School Project through to completion. He would certainly make the House of Commons more interesting although it would be very harsh to dump Shaun Bailey.

Not sure what Shaun Bailey did wrong. His failure to win the seat possibly had more to do with a concerted attack on the Council by the left leaning national press in the run up to the election.Whilst I'm very much in favour of a higher level of participation by women in parliament the Tories should pick their strongest candidate. My own MP Angie Bray has been deeply unimpressive on the few occasions I've heard her speak and has made little impact on the constituency. They'll probably lose Ealing and Central Acton next time out as a result - a seat they could have retained with a stronger candidate. Don't think for one second I am against women MPs. Next door Mary Macleod has made a very decent fist of defending what is a natural Labour seat.

let's face it Shaun Bailey missed an open goal by not getting elected at the last election. Tby Young would have the wit and quick footedness to get rid of the professional politician Andy Slaughter. A type of person the whole nation is tired with. But the Tories should really have been looking for a woman to stand in this seat.

He may be serious. But if you consider the trajectory of his media career, it's not at all serious. Louise Mensh had a better chance of being a adequate MP.

Perhaps not being a 'proper politician' is going to be an advantage - just look at Boris Johnson.I have to admit to being a sceptic about Toby Young but the way in which he has skewered the hypocrisy of people like Polly Toynbee and Fiona Miller on education has been brilliant. Their attitude has very much been one rule for my kids and another rule for your kids whereas Toby Young has made a practical and positive contribution to local education.

Hard to see him doing well against a proper politician like Andy Slaughter. I don't think a polemicist like Toby Young would have the attention span to spend time on serious local issues and would be caught out in the details.
