A new neighbourhood cafe called Bert's Townhouse is coming soon to Hammersmith Grove.

Work is now underway restoring the site at number 111 Hammersmith Grove, which has been empty for eighteen months since the closure of the much missed Brackenbury Wine Rooms in spring last year.

The new cafe plans to open its doors seven days a week, from 11am till 11pm, offering coffee, small plates, cocktails and wine.

Bert's Townhouse is being launched by husband and wife team Alice Paice and Ian, who describes himself as patient husband and general handyman.

The couple already run a "sister" site, Bert's Kitchen Garden on the spectacular Llyn Peninsula in North Wales, which offers accommodation in the form of a campsite and huts along with a restaurant open in summer months and a cafe, currently open at weekends.

Alice and Ian say: " We have spent the last eight years transforming an old farm into a thriving kitchen garden and eco retreat. With an ever-changing landscape and natural environment, it is the perfect base to stay still or explore the magnificent Llyn Peninsula.

" We wanted to create a space where people could escape the everyday, celebrate the natural environment, encourage creativity and to digitally detox.

" It needed to be somewhere for kids to run free, for parents to unwind and for people to come together and enjoy shared experiences and i think we have done it….."

Now, as work continues on the new Hammersmith townhouse,  the couple say: " One day at a time it is slowly but surely coming together."

And while they have not yet announced an opening date, the message on Bert's Instagram site - which has already attracted 400 followers - says Yn Fuan, Welsh for soon.
