Interactive Installation Coming to Lyric Square

Families in Hammersmith are being invited to step into a world of colour, sound and imagination this half term as In Bloom arrives in Lyric Square from Sunday 4 October to Friday 6 November.

The interactive installation, inspired by the natural world, will transform Lyric Square into the heart of a giant glowing plant. Children are encouraged to explore freely, touching the illuminated spheres and discovering how each one shifts colour and creates its own sound. There is no right or wrong way to play, only the joy of experimenting and watching the sculpture respond.

The artwork takes its cue from bees and other pollinators, echoing the way they move from flower to flower in search of nectar and pollen. That theme continues beyond the installation itself, becoming the starting point for the Hammersmith Bee Trail, a free family activity designed to help children learn more about local wildlife while exploring the town centre.

Seven bees have “left the hive” and are now hiding in businesses around Hammersmith. Families can follow their trail, find each bee and answer its question using clues from the information boards. The trail will be available on the Hammersmith BID website from Sunday 4 October, and families are encouraged to check back then and follow the BID’s Instagram for updates.

There are prizes for those who complete the challenge. The first ten people to submit fully correct answers will receive a pot of Hammersmith Honey, produced by the Buckfast bees that live on the roof of the Lyric Theatre. All correct entries will also be entered into a draw for an afternoon tea for four at the Novotel London West, adding an extra incentive for families to get involved.
