The Arts Society Chiswick welcomes art historian and Blue Badge Guide Anna Warrillow for an illuminating talk, The History of London as told through its stained glass , at POSK on Thursday 11 June at 8 pm. Doors and the private bar open at 7 pm.

Warrillow’s lecture promises a vivid journey through nearly two millennia of London’s history, seen through the intricate stained-glass windows that adorn its churches and livery halls. From Shakespeare and Dick Whittington to the modern metropolis, these colourful panels reveal the city’s evolving identity, its people, and its traditions. The talk will feature examples from the eighteenth century to the present day, highlighting the artistry of both historic and contemporary glassmakers.

Attendees will receive a guide to notable windows and their locations, offering the chance to explore London’s hidden treasures on a self-guided walk. Warrillow, a graduate of the University of Sussex and the Royal College of Art, brings her expertise as a former V&A curator and founder of Canvas and Stone Tours.

Alison Watson, Chair of The Arts Society Chiswick, said, “We are looking forward to this fascinating lecture bringing London’s history vividly to life through the beautiful and often overlooked stained-glass windows of the City.”

The evening will take place at POSK, with doors and the private bar opening at 7pm. The society’s AGM begins at 7.45pm, followed by the talk at 8pm.

Guests are warmly welcomed — £15 on the door, redeemable against the annual subscription for anyone joining on the night.

Membership of the Arts Society Chiswick includes ten expert lectures on the second Thursday of every month (except August and December) and the opportunity to participate in tours, visits, social events and Special Interest Days.
