Italian actress and playwright Antonella Fittipaldi during a previous performance
November 2, 2026
An award-winning multilingual theatre production exploring memory, identity and artificial intelligence is set to be staged in west London as part of the VOILÀ! Theatre Festival this month.
Scaleno – One Body, Three Voices, written and performed by Italian actress and playwright Antonella Fittipaldi, will be presented at Barons Court Theatre on 6 and 7 November.
The solo production recently received the Best Production award at the Liverpool Fringe Awards 2026 following an earlier appearance at the Camden Fringe. The show was also nominated for Best Drama and Best Original Show.
Directed by Rossella Cabiddu and produced by La Nuda Compagnia, Scaleno centres on a woman whose inner world is expressed through three distinct voices, each representing a different relationship with time, language and identity.
The work moves between Neapolitan dialect, Italian and English, with English surtitles provided throughout the performance. In the play, Neapolitan is associated with the past, Italian with the present and English with an imagined future.
A notable feature of the production is the inclusion of an intelligent speaker on stage, which acts as one of the protagonist's voices. Rather than functioning as an external machine, the artificial intelligence becomes part of the character's internal dialogue, speaking in English with a calm British accent.
Through this structure, the production examines themes including trauma, family relationships, social class, desire and the influence of technology on personal identity. The narrative focuses on the tension between remaining present and retreating into memory, fantasy or imagined futures.
Combining theatre, multimedia elements and dark humour, the work asks what happens when survival mechanisms become ingrained habits and when escape evolves into a defining part of a person's identity.
The production is recommended for audiences aged 16 and over and contains references to trauma and family conflict.
Further information is available through the VOILÀ! Theatre Festival website.
Barons Court Theatre is at 28a Comeragh Road, W14 9HR (nearest tubes: Barons Court and West Kensington).
